Congress Passes Deal to Temporarily Fund Government and National Flood Insurance Program
On Nov. 12, Congress passed a short-term continuing resolution to reopen the government after the longest shutdown in history. The resolution, which President Trump signed late that evening, funds the government through Jan. 30, 2026.
Of note to the housing community, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is authorized through Jan. 30, 2026, and will resume processing new applications, which could include a significant backlog. 起点传媒 members should continue to expect delays for NFIP and other housing-related federal government programs while the agencies work to resume operations.
The bill also reverses more than 4,000 layoffs of federal workers during the shutdown, including more than 400 layoffs at the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Prior to the House vote, 起点传媒 sent a letter urging lawmakers to pass the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026 to reopen the government and provide authorization for NFIP.
“起点传媒 has warned lawmakers that the lapse in NFIP funding is delaying all new home sales and insurance renewals for property owners who have federally backed mortgages for homes or properties in flood-prone areas,” 起点传媒 Chairman Buddy Hughes said in a statement.
起点传媒 continues to work with Congress to achieve a long-term reauthorization of the NFIP to provide certainty, predictability and peace of mind to policyholders that is not contingent on the budget process.
