HBA Celebrates Largest Graduating Class in Apprenticeship Program History
The recently celebrated the graduation of more than 50 apprentices across five skilled trades at the 2025 Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony, held May 1 in Gainesville, Fla. The is an association-sponsored and employer-driven model incorporating an “earn while you learn” style of combining on-the-job training with related classroom instruction.
“Our apprentices worked incredibly hard to reach this point, and their success directly strengthens our local construction industry,” said Sara Emmanuel, executive officer of BANCF. “They’ve balanced work and education, and this graduation is a recognition of their dedication, growth, and the value they bring to their employers and our community every day.”
The 53 apprentices representing electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and building maintenance trades were the largest graduating class in the program’s history. When asked what contributed to the milestone this year, Emmanuel said all the credit goes to the sheer determination of the students. Program survey results revealed that the students’ passion for the trades contributed to completing their training. During the ceremony, several students received recognition for their perfect attendance, a testament to the graduating class.
“As an employer and BANCF president, I’ve seen firsthand the value these apprentices bring to the job site. Their skills, work ethics, and drive are exactly what our industry needs,” said Fred Lesperance. “This program is a game changer — for businesses and for the individuals who go through it.”
A majority of the graduates will continue working for their employers, BANCF members, after graduating. According to BANCF, the average return on employer investment is 150% and the retention rate for apprentice employment is 90%.
